Dr. Trukhacheva.

Dr. Elena Trukhacheva, MD, MSCI joined the Oak Brook Fertility Center in September, 2009. Dr Trukhacheva has devoted more than nine years of her professional life to academic medicine, research, and clinical practice in the field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

In 1994 Dr. Trukhacheva won a Gold Medal (first award) and special Silver prize for practical skills at the International Biology Olympiad, conducted as an intellectual competition for high-school students on a yearly basis by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This prestigious award enabled her to enter the best Medical School in her home country - Russia. Dr. Trukhacheva received her medical degree from the Russian State Medical University in Moscow, Russia. She graduated magna cum laude in 2000 and received multiple awards for research and academic excellence during her studies, including a full scholarship from the Federal Russian government and Moscow government, and several grants from the Open Society Institute. After graduation, she received a prestigious award from the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences for research and clinical training at the Russian Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Perinatology, where her focus was mostly on reproductive endocrinology, infertility, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Upon completion of this program in 2002, Dr. Trukhacheva passed the United States Medical Licensing Board Examinations and started residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College Medicine in Houston, Texas, which is consistently rated among the top medical schools in the country.

During residency, Dr. Trukhacheva continued research in the field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility under the mentorship of leaders in this subspecialty — Drs. Sandra Ann Carson, John Buster, and Joe Leigh Simpson. One of her research projects at Baylor was devoted to the development and validation of statistical model to predict cleavage stage embryos implantation potential. This project received the first award in 2005 during Arthur M. Harris resident research day at Baylor and was published in the Fertility and Sterility journal, one of the most widely read journals by Reproductive Endocrinologists.

As Reproductive Endocrinology always was of special interest for her, after residency Dr. Trukhacheva entered a three year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Northwestern University in Chicago. During her fellowship she also received a Master of Science degree in Clinical Investigation. She had formal training in biostatistics, epidemiology, and design of the clinical trials, as well as medical ethics. Dr Trukhacheva conducted several basic science and clinical research projects that were presented at multiple national and international scientific meetings. She worked with Dr. Serdar E. Bulun, one of the well recognized experts in the field of endometriosis, exploring a role of estrogen receptor beta in pathophysiology of endometriosis and progesterone resistance of this tissue. This work was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and potentially could lead to the development of new strategies for medical treatment of endometriosis. Another research project was devoted to improvement of embryo selection for IVF, looking at the differential expression of several genes in cumulus granulosa cells as a novel embryo selection criterion for improvement of outcomes in assisted reproductive technology (ART).

During fellowship Dr Trukhacheva also had a busy clinical practice at Northwestern with the focus on reproductive endocrinology and infertility as well as advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic gynecologic surgery. She was also involved in proctoring and teaching advanced laparoscopy to physicians in training at Northwestern University/Prentice Women’s Hospital and University of Illinois at Peoria, and lectured on electrosurgery and hysteroscopy. In addition, Dr. Trukhacheva serves as a reviewer for Fertility and Sterility.

Dr. Trukhacheva has been recognized by patients and peers as being an exceptionally compassionate physician and she takes great pride in providing outstanding, personalized attention and medical care to each individual and couple. She is fluent in English, Russian, and Ukrainian. A native of Russia, she now calls Chicago home.
